Wood Pellet Surplus in the USA
The wood pellet is taking it's hold. In the United
States more and more American people try a new wood
pellet stove every new heating season. While
only less than 1% of the USA population uses wood
pellet heat, European countries are nearing 25%.
So why are not American burning more pellets?
1) The pellet money factor - Retail sales of
wood pellets seem to hover around 40% less than
home heating oil. When new users consider a installing
new wood pellet burning stove for $3,000+ or a
wood pellet boiler for a whopping $10K the average
working American tends to shy away from going
green with the wood pellet. They do not just find
it economical in short term heating solution.
Most American think about their budget and can
care less about going green but not all have this
attitude. They will buy what ever is cheapest
oil or pellet and think they deserve a break in
bulk cost while the pellet mills struggle to stay
a float in business and provide local jobs!
2) The work- The recent American generations
have grown up in a "Thermostat up and down"
environment centered around lower oil prices compared
to the rest of Earth. Unlike like firewood and
coal generations before them, American hate extra
work especially when it comes time to live socially
in the household. Work involving a daily fill
of the pellet hopper, daily cleaning of wood pellet
burn pots, and general daily operation of the
stove is a extra burden of chores to the average
American.
3) Reliable oil boilers - Most home heating boilers
and last 15 - 25 years. Recent new installments
of oil burners Americans rather get their usage
out of them now, ( unless oil skyrockets in cost)
and later in the future put in a wood pellet boiler.
You will find most users of a pellet stoves still
have a oil furnace as primary heat. The wood
pellet stove can lessen the cost of an oil
bill, but if home heating oil were a dollar a
gallon again guess what they would use - you got
it - OIL!
Thank you Europe for converting 25% over to pellet
heat. Set a global example to the rest of us.
